Heirloom Apple Butter and Oatmeal Bars
Warm, gooey apple butter, brown sugar and oatmeal formed into the yummiest little dessert bar. This has become one of my new favorite go-to recipes for Fall when I'm in the mood for a quick sweet-tooth fix.
Apple Butter was a staple where I grew up. Dad kept it in the refrigerator to have with his biscuits in the morning. To this day, I give in to the urge any time I have the opportunity to have some apple butter with biscuits. For me, it tastes like...home.
The details:
If applesauce could be made into a paste, that's pretty much what apple butter is. It's like concentrated applesauce, with the most delicious, intense apple flavor and it's flavored even more with nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, and sugar. Slather a large spoonful of apple butter on a hot biscuit fresh out of the oven, and you've got the perfect breakfast!
If you don't already know, you can shop our online pantry, which features the BEST apple butter. I recently used it to make these Oatmeal & Apple Butter Bars, and I promise, these little dessert bars pack a big punch when it comes to flavor. They have everything I love about dessert bars, including the brown sugar and lots of butter...YUM! But, then they're baked with an apple butter layer in between the tops & bottoms of the bars. Kind of like an apple butter sandwich, and it doesn't get much better than that!
