Easy Greek Lemon Tzatziki Sauce
This delicious tzatziki recipe is full of fresh ingredients: cool, crisp cucumber, fresh dill, spicy garlic, zesty lemon juice and Greek yogurt. Creamy and super yummy on grilled chicken, marinated beef, veggies, pita bread and more!
We eat a TON of Mediterranean-inspired food because we’re really big fans of fresh ingredients and loads of flavor. Lean meats, olives, fruits, and vegetables like red onion and bell pepper—there’s soo much variety and with recipes like my Lemon & Feta Greek Chicken Pita, these Garlic-Lemon & Herb Roasted Chicken Thighs, or this Smoked Paprika Greek Salmon with Lemon, Feta Orzo Salad, I am certain there’s a Mediterranean recipe that will satisfy the pickiest tastebuds!
I’ve mentioned my love for the Greek food chain Taziki’s, where my husband and I eat nearly every time we’re in Tupelo, a city about 30 minutes south from where we live. My husband loves it, too! I order the same thing nearly every time…marinated beef, Greek salad, and fresh fruit, which always comes with a crunchy pita and the most addictive tzatziki sauce on the planet!
I’ve become pretty familiar with a variety of Greek recipes I love, but I had never tried making my own tzatziki sauce. A few days ago, I had the ingredients to make some Mediterranean meatballs with a Greek salad & orzo pasta and I new it was the perfect recipe to enjoy with a side of creamy, fresh tzatziki sauce.
The details
Tzatziki is in between a dip and a sauce made from a salted yogurt base, chopped cucumber and dill, minced garlic, olive oil and lemon juice. I used Greek yogurt for this recipe, but you could substitute for goat or sheep yogurt if you’re looking for an even deeper authentic flavor. It’s incredibly easy to make and literally takes just a few seconds with a food processor before you’re ready to use it with your favorite recipes.
Making the tzatziki sauce
Start by chopping the cucumber together with the fresh dill and mint. I just toss everything into the food processor and chop for 30-45 seconds until everything is chopped very fine.
Next, mix the Greek yogurt, minced garlic, olive oil,……….and blend in the food processor until smooth (about 1 minute). You may need to remove the lid, stir the sauce and blend again until all ingredients are fully incorporated.
That’s all!! Chill in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve.
