Easy, creamy and everything breakfast dreams are made of! This French toast is made with the perfect amount of cinnamon, vanilla, eggs and heavy cream so that it's soft on the inside with slightly crisped & caramelized edges on the outside.
Make this Cinnamon & Vanilla Custard French Toast for a weekend treat or special holiday brunch. It’s one of the easiest breakfast recipes there is and the caramelized, buttery edges of the French toast will keep you coming back to it for every special occasion…seriously so, so delicious!
I haven’t been into making complicated meals here lately. Since there’s so much cooking to do over the holidays, I’ve been taking it a little easier when I’m coming up with recipes.
That doesn’t mean the recipes are boring. Far from it, actually—just look at this French toast! Nutella, homemade cinnamon whipped cream, berries…the list of toppings is endless, and I’m just saying, if you haven’t tried Nutella with French toast, you are really missing out.
The details
Start with the whipped cream. While you can skip it altogether, I believe it makes this French toast extra yummy, so personally, I wouldn’t.
You’ll whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar, cinnamon and a smidge of vanilla extract until you get a nice whipped cream topping that is as light and airy as it is “cinnamony” and delicious.
The rest is pretty straight forward with a custard made from eggs, cream, sugar, cinnamon & vanilla, and slices of fresh French bread. Dip each slice of bread into the custard and then lay the slices into the sizzling, buttered skillet, flipping once to cook both sides evenly. Keep a close eye on the French toast—it doesn’t take long!
